I'm on a mission ^_^

About a month ago I decided that I am going to run in the 2011 Disney Princess Half-Marathon. I've never run a race before but I have about 9 months to train. I decided to work towards this goal for several reasons.

First, I was reading some Disney blogs online and they mentioned running the marathon last year. The experience sounded so fun! Character meet and greets along the course, live music, and of course, the thrill of running across the finish line and collecting your medal. I also know a lot of people who run marathons and they all agree that it's a great experience.

The second, and perhaps most important reason, is that I feel running and finishing a half-marathon will be an amazing accomplishment for me. I've never really finished anything or had a feeling of accomplishment. Even when I graduated with my masters I didn't really look it as a huge accomplishment. It was just something I did because I felt I had to. I didn't even get a graduation ceremony until a few months after I finished my classes so the high of passing finals had even worn off.

I think that finishing my training and running the race will feel amazing and will be amazing. A moment I can look back on and say, "Wow, I did that." I don't really have many of those.

To get ready for the half-marathon (I think I'll call it an HM from now on) I downloaded some training schedules online. I have a schedule to introduce me to running and build my endurance and one for the intense training I'll need the 3 months before the race.

Right now I'm working on the intro to running program. It has you run at increasing intervals until you work up to 30 mins a time. Then I figure I can add minutes and increase my overall running time. This week I am running four 7 minute segments with 3 mins walking and 4 mins running.

I actually didn't realize it but this week I am increasing my running time each session by 10 mins from last week. Yay!
